Monongalia Safety Town

The true measure of a nation’s standing is how well it attends to its children – their health and safety, their material security, their education and socialization, and their sense of being loved, valued, and included in the families and societies into which they are born.-

Prevention is the best practice strategy to eliminate, reduce or avert many of the tragic, detrimental injuries and deaths we are witnessing in our state and community. We must build “these little humans” in a manner that will enhance their lives and reduce the risk of the sadness, despair and hopelessness we have seen in our state.  Unintentional accidents are the number one cause of death for children from birth to 19 years of age. The number of children in Monongalia County that are dying of unintentional accidents has been increasing since 2005. These are PREVENTABLE!

We are proposing the creation of a Safety Town. The WVU-Greater Morgantown Safe Communities Initiative is reaching out to you for your help in making this happen…if you believe it can happen, it will!   A Safety Town is a creative, fun way for the children of Monongalia County to learn how to be safe.

If you would be interested in creating the Monongalia Safety Town there will be a meeting Thursday, June 22 at 10:00 am. The location of the meeting will be determined within the next few weeks and posted on this page.
