The Granville Police Department sponsored a document shredding/pill take back day on Saturday, September 23rd. Though more prescription medications have been collected in previous take back days, if even one pill could be removed that would save the live of a child that unintentionally swallows the pill….it made a difference! A beautiful day greeted enthusiastic and caring community residents that wanted to help to combat unintentional overdose deaths in children living in Monongalia County. Unintentional deaths (i.e., deaths categorized by mechanism as drowning, fall, fire/burn, motor vehicle traffic–related, other transportation-related, poisoning, suffocation) are the leading cause of children deaths in the United States as well as Monongalia County. These are PREVENTABLE!
Other sponsors in attendance on Saturday were PACE Secure Document & Media Destruction, Granville Fire Department, and WVU-Greater Morgantown Safe Communities. The kids enjoyed hanging out with Distracted Dave, having the faces painted and Mr. Twister created some pretty neat balloon shaped requests!
